When printing with stock Epson inks, Matte Black ink may appear visually denser compared to the Photo Black ink. However, Matte Black ink is easily scratched or wiped off the film, because it will not bond with film media This produces a very unstable film print.
In contrast, the Photo Black ink is better for printing on film. Although it may not appear as visually dense as the Matte Black ink, it is more stable having a greater chance at exposure success.
For optimal print quality, higher density, and long-lasting archival results, it’s recommended to use a proper dye-based ink, such as Dmax® ink. This type of ink helps ensure superior density and durability for film printing.
