For best printing results, follow the steps below for both cartridge-based printers and EcoTank models, with or without a conversion kit.
Cartridge-Based Printers
1. Install OEM Color Cartridges
Insert original equipment manufacturer (OEM) color cartridges into the appropriate slots on your printer.
2. Perform Printer Tests
Run a series of tests, including a nozzle check from the printer’s utility menu, to confirm proper printer functionality.
3. Configure All-Black Setup
Once the printer is clean and operating correctly, install an All Black Ink setup for continued printing.
EcoTank Models with Conversion Kit
1. Fill OEM Color Inks
Fill OEM color inks into the designated tanks.
2. Fill Black Ink Slot
Using the EcoTank Conversion Kit, fill the Photo Black (PK), Black (K), or Pigment Black (PB) slot with DMAX® or your preferred ink.
3. Complete Ink Charging
Follow the printer’s setup utility instructions to charge the ink. Make sure all slots are filled to 100%.
4. Print Nozzle Check
Verify ink flow by running a nozzle check from the printer’s utility menu.
EcoTank Models without Conversion Kit
Note: EcoTank models use “keyed” ink bottles for each slot. Follow these steps for easy refilling:
1. Empty the Black Ink Bottle
Carefully pour the contents of the black ink bottle into an empty container.
2. Fill the Black Ink Bottle with the Preferred Ink
Add DMAX® or your desired ink to the empty black ink bottle.
3. Fill Black Ink Tank
Insert the refilled black ink bottle into the black ink slot.
4. Fill Remaining OEM Color Ink Tanks
Insert OEM color inks into the corresponding slots.
5. Complete Ink Charging
Use the printer setup utility to charge the ink.
6. Top Off Ink Tanks
Ensure all ink slots are filled to 100%.
7. Print Nozzle Check
Run a nozzle check to confirm proper ink flow.
Important Note:
It’s recommended to only use DMAX® (or your preferred ink) in the black slot of any EcoTank model until the printer warranty expires. After the warranty period, you can fill all slots with DMAX® or your preferred ink to continue with all-black printing. This precaution helps avoid warranty issues should you need support from the printer manufacturer.
