Printing with Film Scraps in Adobe Illustrator Using AccuRIP® Emerald

Want to save film and use scraps? Different printers load film differently—some on the right, others centered. Follow these simple steps for successful printing with film scraps using AccuRIP.

Steps for Right-Side Loading Printers:

  1. Set up an artboard to match the dimensions of your film scrap.
  2. In AccuRIP, select a sheet media size that’s larger than your film scrap. (Example: For a 7” x 6” film scrap, choose Letter size).
  3. In the Adobe Print window, select the AccuRIP Emerald driver, then set a custom media size to match your artboard and film scrap dimensions. Click PRINT to send the job to AccuRIP for output.
  4. AccuRIP will display a print preview showing the print location. Click PRINT to finalize output.

Tip: Right-side media loading printers always begin printing from the zero origin point, located in the upper-left corner of all sheet media sizes.

Steps for Center-Loading Printers:

  1. Set up an artboard to match the dimensions of your film scrap.
  2. In AccuRIP, select a sheet media size larger than the film scrap. (Example: For a 4” x 12” scrap, choose 11x17).
  3. In the Adobe Print window, select the AccuRIP Emerald driver and set the media size to match your AccuRIP settings. In the options area, set the Y Placement Value to zero. Click PRINT to send the job to AccuRIP.
  4. AccuRIP will show a print preview with the exact location. Click PRINT to finalize output.

Tip: For center-loading printers, set the image to "centered" on stock media sizes. This ensures AccuRIP prints the image successfully on any film scrap. AccuRIP will show the print preview, indicating the image's exact centered position.
