Having trouble printing from AccuRIP Emerald but not other programs? Follow this step-by-step guide to fix printing errors by resolving driver issues, clogged printheads, or incorrect settings.
Step 1: Check the printer's health
Check the ink levels of the printer, if levels are ample, print a nozzle check using the printer's manufacturer driver utility. If the nozzle check shows signs of a clogged printhead, run cleaning cycles through the utility until the print is clean. If the nozzle check is perfect, proceed with the Printer Driver Rebuild instructions. Using a head-cleaning fluid like Amaze-INK will help with stubborn/severe clogs.
Print a nozzle check on a printer with no front touch screen panel:
- Go to SYSTEM SETTINGS/PREFERENCES>PRINTERS and SCANNERS
- Select the printer driver
- Click OPTIONS AND SUPPLIES> UTILITIES
- Select OPEN PRINTER UTILITIES
- Choose the Nozzle Check option
Print a nozzle check on a printer with a front touch screen panel:
- Select SETUP/MAINTENANCE menu
- Choose PRINT NOZZLE CHECK
NOTE: Canon users: A clogged printhead may only show the PGBK section printed. This is not the portion of the print head the ABI feature uses with Canon. Clean it using the Canon printer driver utility (up to 3 deep cleanings or 5 regular cleanings) until the CMYK portions are all clear. For most Canon models, hold the RESUME button until the POWER lamp flashes white twice, then release to print the nozzle check.
Step 2: Printer Driver Rebuild
For users with a clean Nozzle Check the issue might be with the printer driver or port assignment. Here’s how to fix both.
Even if the printer prints a clean nozzle check, it might not be using the correct printer driver for AccuRIP. Mac sometimes installs AirPrint printer drivers that work for basic tasks, but AccuRIP needs a genuine manufacturer printer driver.
Check and update the printer driver:
How to check if the "Kind" shows as AirPrint:
- Open SYSTEM SETTINGS/PREFERENCES
- Go to PRINTERS & SCANNERS
- Select the printer in the list of installed printers.
- Click on the printer and check the Kind field.
- If the "Kind" shows as "AirPrint" this is a generic printer driver, delete the printer driver and set up the genuine manufacturer (OEM) printer driver for the printer model. Download and run the genuine printer driver installer from the printer manufacturer's support site.
Update the printer driver:
- Delete the existing printer driver:
- Click on the printer and select Remove Printer.
- Rebuild the printer driver:
- Download and run the printer driver installer from the printer manufacturer's support site. Click on Add a printer and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the printer using the genuine printer manufacturer's print driver.
Step 3: Check the AccuRIP Printer Driver
If there is no AccuRIP Emerald print driver in the list of printer drivers, open the AccuRIP Emerald software and from the Support section, click Build Print Driver to build the printer driver.
Step 4: Open AccuRIP Emerald
AccuRIP Emerald must be open and running for printing. If a new OEM printer driver was installed while AccuRIP was open
- Close and reopen AccuRIP to recognize the new driver, making sure to clear the image preview if needed (CLEAR button, hold ALT/Option + Click Clear to clear all).
- Print the Emerald Test Page (Support > Print Test). If the test prints successfully, move forward to the next step.
Step 5: Select “AccuRIP Emerald” in the graphics application print window
Once printed from the graphics application via the AccuRIP Emerald print driver, go to the AccuRIP Emerald software. Click Print in Emerald, and the file showing in the Proof Positive Preview should now print.
