Exporting and Saving Files From Separation Studio® NXT

Looking to save separations for later use, outsourcing for prints, or to send to a DTS (Direct to Screen) device? Separation Studio NXT offers two great options for doing so.

In the top menu bar of the software, there are “SAVE” and “EXPORT AS DCS2”. Below are the functions of both options.

SAVE – PSD Format (With Transparency Support)

The SAVE option saves the file in .PSD (Photoshop) format, which retains:

  • Background transparency
  • Full spot color separations
  • FPO (For Position Only) previews for layout reference

This format is ideal for importing into Adobe, Corel and other design software that supports designing with transparency workflows. PSD is the format for handling separations to be printed from another program such as AccuRIP® Emerald.

EXPORT AS DCS2 – EPS Format

The EXPORT AS DCS2 option generates a DCS2.eps file (Desktop Color Separation 2.0), is the format for handling separations to be printed from another program.

Key benefits:

  • Spot color separations are fully embedded
  • Includes an FPO preview image
  • No extra separations are introduced
  • Drag-and-drop ready for external RIPs and DTS printersImport/Place a separated file into design layouts within programs such as Adobe, Corel, and other programs’ workflows

This format is ideal when the file is ready to output the finalized separations without requiring transparency layers or further design edits.
